The United States is preparing to return four bronze sculptures to Thailand.

Mr. Phanombutr Chantrachoti, Director-General of the Fine Arts Department, revealed that on April 26, 2025, Mr. David Keller, an investigator from the Homeland Security Investigation Agency, informed the Fine Arts Department that the Asian Art Museum, San Francisco, USA, had completely removed four items of Prakonchai Group sculptures or sculptures from Khao Plai Bat 2 from the museum’s registry, awaiting their return to Thailand.

The four antiques, consisting of three Bodhisattvas and one Buddha statue, are among the sculptures excavated in Prakhon Chai District (now in Chaloem Phra Kiat District), Buriram Province, and smuggled out of Thailand since 1964 and are now in the possession of private individuals and several museums abroad.
